I love the old science fiction stories where they explain the scientific reason something cannot happen, then it appears to happen, and then it turns out there is a scientific explanation showing that the laws of physics were not mocked.
Honestly, I really do remember being in high-school in the 80’s and thinking that 2000 was “The Future” – feeling a little bad that I’d be over 30 and therefore would be “OLD.”
Could have been like that but we let crapitalism and cronyism steal it from us.
So did all who grew up with that hope.
They could have mocked us with flat universers

It is common with scifi with the notable exception of idiocracy, which got it 500 years late.
They didn’t predict earth would be run by idiotic warmongers ,
I think Mad Max (the original series) predicted a more realistic ‘Future’
Watch the show “For All Mankind” on Apple TV to see how it should have unfolded!
Stuff is being held back from us
I want my flying car already..
According to Back to the Future we were supposed to get flying cars by 2015.🤣🤣🤣
Scotty, beam me up!
I was in middle school ’79 and teachers had us thinking/believing we’d been in flying cars by the yr 2000
They never took into account the effect of greed and religion holding us back!
Where’s my space condo in the sea of tranquility ?
I do feel a bit cheated. We were supposed to be living on the moon by now and not doing boring jobs! Ho hum
Where’s my flying car and personal robot?
❤️🌹
Yes but how many things that were dreamed up in science fiction are now reality? Just one example is from Robert Heinlein called a waterbed.
Back to the Future was a swing and a miss. What is next up to bat? Star Trek? Warhammer 40K?
We have fallen far short😟
I remember when the last of the deep space probes launched in 1987…
Ahh- so true!!
It’s also interesting that the year 1997 often plays a key role like in „Escape from New York“ or „Terminator“
Roy Batty should be watching warships burning in space right now.
Well, technically, we are doing that, but just not in person 😉
if only the greedy had not taken over
& the culture collapses much like science concentration ignored the rise of the Third Reich.
Fahrenheit 451 was pretty accurate though!
