Letting people put icons on the desktop was one of the dumbest things OS developers ever did. I disable that on any system I use. It’s one reason I won’t use Windows anymore.
This will work — until *somebody* (looking at you, grandpa!) unknowingly clicks in the right click menu to “sort icons alphabetically” or something else. Then the icons reshuffle in columns along the left and the finger is pointing at nothing.
