  1. One of the heaviest movies with politics (Senate debates, trade blockade, etc) is going to appeal to young kids? Not like they watch CSPAN for fun. When I first watched SW in 1977, I didn’t understand about an emperor and the Senate he dissolved and regional governors ruling. Just laser swords, space dog fights and cool bad guys.

  2. This is what I don’t get about people who hate on Disney SW. Lucas was always pandering to young audiences even with his OT, but especially with The Phantom Menace. That was at least equally as “kiddy” as anything Disney has given us. Plus Lucas created the Clone Wars cartoon in the 2000s which was very kid-friendly.

  3. They’re self-appointed gatekeepers of “tolerance,” usually guilty whites who deal with their own anxiety by leading the charge. You can almost hear the battle cry, “See? I’m one of the good ones!”

  4. “It was supposed to be a kid’s movie for 12-year-olds that were going through puberty, who don’t know what they’re doing, and are asking all the big questions: What should I be worried about? What’s important in life? And Star Wars has all those things in there. They’re buried in there but you definitely get it, especially if you’re young.” There you go. The man literally says that he made it that way. Rather than try to focus on telling the best story he sold out to make it for the kiddies

  5. In my opinion it is the if not one of the best Star Wars movies.

The first 15 minutes of Phantom Menace is some of the best Star Wars you’re ever going to get.

The fact we haven’t gotten a show about pod racing is insane…

  6. Never understood all the hate for the series, had some ups and downs but I love them all. Can just switch off and enjoy a couple of hours of entertainment

  7. If not for Neilsen, McGregor and Parks acting, as well as that iconic lightsaber fight this could have easily been the worst SW movie in the franchise. Ugh! Jar-Jar doesn’t do it any favors either 👎🏾

  8. The original trilogy was also primarily aimed at kids. Look at how important the toys were in the overall concept. But lots of adults like sci-fi as well, so the fan base was not only kids.
