If you look past the fact Tom Cruise is in it – The new Mummy was very well done. I love the new one.
I didn’t know that was an attempted reboot. I’m glad I didn’t know that when I watched it, so I was able to enjoy it. I did think it was weird that they ripped the title off lol
It was too obsessed with CGI enhanced acrobatics and was downright shoddy in every other respect. I put it alongside the remake of The Wicker Man as something you need to get your mind scrubbed afterwards to delate ever having seen it.
I liked the Tom Cruise remake but in no way did I compare it to the fabulous work that Brandon did in the other mummy movies they just weren’t meant to be the same movie they may have called it a reboot but it was nothing like it
Sommers is wrong to assume the Tom Cruise movie ,the Mummy, was anything to do with his Mummy movie. Tom Cruise’s Mummy,if anything was a reboot of the Awakening (1980) which was a reboot of the Hammer Classic Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb (1971) .All three which were adaptations of Bram Stokers Jewel of the Seven Stars 1903 Novel. Besides , Sommers film , though it does have the same basic plot line, hardly resembles the Original Mummy with Boris Karloff .

It was a cynical reboot, with only limited connection to the original, seemed like it was just trying to cash in on the name.
I liked the idea of attempting to do a monster series, there was no need to pretend it was connected to The Mummy franchise though.
The Cruise remake was an interesting concept that didn’t quite stick the landing.
They are both remakes 😒
It was not a reboot it was an introduction to the marvel monster squad.
Yet it reconnected with the horror elements of the ORIGINAL film.
I didn’t rate either versions, 1999s the mummy is a poor man’s Indiana Jones lol
It’s the one thing Tom never had,A Momy

Let’s not forget the prior Mummy film with Tony Curtis with its greatest moment: the flashlights that illuminate the bearers’ faces.

Tom Cruise ruins everything.
Yet his films were nothing like the films he remade the mummy from🤣
So, this happened? It was made? I don’t recall anything about it.
Stephen Sommers wasn’t the director of the original Mummy. The Mummy was a 1932 film and the director passed away in the late 60s

So it’s a reboot now? I could have sworn that the storyline had a beginning and an ending that involved riding off into the sunset. We’ll see I guess?
